When was the last time you made a great investment?

Do you feel like all you do is work?  Are you thankful that you have a job in today’s world of uncertainty?  Do you realize what NATSO has done for you lately?  Recently, the NATSO Independent Operators Council recommended to the NATSO Board of Directors a new dues schedule on behalf of marketing group partners.  Effective October 15, 2007, the NATSO Board of Directors approved a new dues level for marketing groups based on percentage of participation.  Your strength in participation will bring you an annual dues rate of $500 per location.  This is a fantastic opportunity to invest in the association that is making a difference in your business investment.

Did you realize that NATSO lobbied Congress and participated in several meetings with the National

Council on Weights and Measures regarding automatic temperature compensation?   NATSO formed the PUMP coalition earlier this year, and successfully recruited the American Trucking Association to help us fight efforts to permit automatic temperature compensation.   One of NATSO’s top priorities is improving language and revising legislation as it relates to price gouging provisions.  While the revised legislation makes it more difficult for attorney generals to effectively prosecute these cases, it does nothing to stop them from launching aggressive investigations, which are quite costly for retailers.  NATSO continues to oppose price gouging legislation, as well as to advocate that – if passage of this legislation is imminent – enforcement should be under the jurisdiction of the Federal Trade Commission, rather than the attorney generals.

This approach makes it far less likely that investigations will be pursued for political reasons.

NATSO continues to work on Credit Card/Fuel Card issues, Tolling issues, Truck Parking initiatives,

Truckstop depreciation issues with the IRS, EPA’s Renewable Fuels Standard Program, Diesel Exhaust Fluid/UREA, Tobacco Issues, Grassroots initiatives, Rest Area commercialization, plus many, many more issues as they occur in each state or on the national level.

Are you contributing to the voice that makes a difference to the long term viability of your investment?

NATSO is your voice on Capitol Hill.  NATSO is your voice on state issues.  NATSO is the only association representing Truckstops and travel plazas.  But, we cannot continue to grow stronger if we do not have your support.  Contact Burt Newman, Jr., at 615-377-7960, or Pamela Hayes with NATSO at (703) 739-8565, if you are interested in joining the efforts of a NATSO and PTP marketing dues reduced membership.  Attend The NATSO Show 2008, January 27 – 30 at The Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida for more details on the industry and to network with your peers.  The annual NATSO Show is a must attend event to GROW your business!  www.natso.com
